The International Wilderness Leadership School (IWLS) will be on campus March 4 to share what their company has to offer. They will be in the north foyer of Campus Center from noon to 3:00 p.m. and in Hill Center room 56 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. to give a presentation and answer questions.
IWLS leadership programs take place in some of the world’s most alluring wilderness, from glacier-capped mountains in South America to the wild rivers of Alaska to Africa’s wildlife-filled savannas. The programs include technical training in alpine mountaineering, sea kayaking, rafting, canoeing, rock and ice climbing, backcountry skiing/snowboarding and backpacking and more.
We work closely with the Wilderness Education Association (WEA), a program founded by legendary mountaineer and outdoor educator Paul Petzoldt that has been certifying outdoor leaders since 1977. All IWLS courses incorporate the WEA 18-point leadership and decision-making curriculum, a proven standard for developing judgment and leadership skills.
IWLS instructors are widely recognized as some of the very best in their field and have practical leadership experience from around the globe. They are well trained and have an uncommon enthusiasm for sharing their skill and knowledge, borne out of a passion for outdoor exploration.
We also conduct a spectrum of rescue and professional training courses. These programs include avalanche courses, crevasse rescue, swift water rescue, and high angle rescue for individuals and professional groups like search and rescue teams, government agencies, outdoor guide services and professional educators.
All IWLS program are available for College Credit. In addition to scholarships, students can use Federal Financial Aid, Americorps Education Awards and the GI Bill towards tuition costs.
International Wilderness Leadership School programs are exciting, diverse, comprehensive and fun.
