At its annual meeting in San Antonio last month, the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) K-12 Task Force presented John Krout with a plaque recognizing his leadership in founding and directing the task force for the past eight years.

The K-12 Task Force explores ways in which information on aging can be included in K-12 curricula by working with national and local teacher organizations and collecting and disseminating information on K-12 gerontology inclusion.

The AGHE K-12 Task Force administers an essay contest for middle-school students in the city where its annual meeting is held and has initiated a national book award that recognizes children's books that reflect aging themes.

Between 2001 and 2003, Professor Krout directed a project in Ithaca and several other local school districts that developed and evaluated lesson plans that included information on aging in middle and high school social studies classes.

Krout is a founding fellow of AGHE.
