Dr. Ismail Mehr
"American Medical Relief Mission to Gaza"
Wednesday, April 15
4:00-5:30 pm, Friends Hall 205
Just a few days after the Israeli attacks in January, Dr. Ismail Mehr was called upon by the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) to lead the only American medical relief mission into the city of Gaza (before the cease-fire). His slide presentation will cover the medical and humanitarian struggles as a result of the recent war, which left as many as 1,500 Palestinians dead and many more wounded, homeless, and without water; the effects of the 20-month embargo on Gaza; and the people he met with during his stay.
Dr. Mehr is a board–certified anesthesiologist and department chair at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, New York. He has been an active member of IMANA for the past seven years and a member of the humanitarian medical relief committee. The American Medical Mission to Gaza (AAMG) includes nine American and four Canadian doctors. During this past January, AAMG embarked on a 10-day mission to bring medical care to Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip.
AAMG is sponsored by the Islamic Medical Association of North America in conjunction with the Federation of Islamic Medical Associations. The group documents the humanitarian and medical observations of American doctors traveling to the Gaza Strip. AMMG does not advocate political action or espouse political views.
Visit the AMMGaza website (ammgaza.blogspot.com) for more information about the organization and its members, how you can help as a citizen or as a doctor, or to schedule interviews.
