Department of Management chairman Mark Cordano will serve as interim dean of the Ithaca College School of Business beginning June 1. A search is currently underway for a successor to Dean Susan West Engelkemeyer, who has accepted an offer to become dean of the Charlton College of Business at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

Cordano joined the School of Business as an assistant professor in 2002 and was promoted to associate professor in 2006. He holds a B.A. in psychology from Cornell University, M.B.A. in management/public policy from Indiana University, and Ph.D. in strategy, business environment, and organizations from the University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business.

"Dr. Cordano has already proven himself an exceptional leader in the School of Business," said Kathleen Rountree, provost and vice president for academic affairs. "He is respected by his colleagues on the faculty and has been involved with many of the issues that are critical to the school's future, including enrollment initiatives and AACSB accreditation preparation. I am confident he will provide the effective leadership needed by the school at this important time."

Cordano previously taught in the Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University, where he received the 1999-2000 Outstanding Teacher Award in the Department of Management. From 1985 to 1989 he was a member of the Executive Development Program at Chemical Bank in New York City. His professional affiliations have included the National Academy of Management and International Association for Business and Society.

At Ithaca, Cordano teaches courses in strategic management, business and society, environmental management, organizational behavior, and human resources. He has published articles in the Journal of Wine Research, Business Strategy and the Environment, and Journal of Business Ethics, among other publications.
