Important Message for the Campus Community

04/29/09

Contributed by David Maley

It is with a great deal of sadness that I inform the campus community of the death of one of our students. Andrea Celeste Morton '10, a clinical health studies major in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, as the result of a sudden medical condition. Her death is not a public health issue and is not related to the swine flu outbreak.

Andrea was a resident assistant in Emerson Hall and a lifeguard for the Office of Recreational Sports. In March she was among a select group honored with the Peggy R. Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership, presented to students who have demonstrated outstanding performance in both academic and nonacademic endeavors during their years here. She was a native of Salamanca, New York.

Members of the campus community are invited to attend a vigil for Andrea at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening in Muller Chapel. Anyone needing support may visit the Chapel throughout the day, where chaplains and other staff will be available to help. For more information on support services, contact the Counseling Center at 607-274-3136.

I know the entire campus community joins me in extending our heartfelt prayers and best wishes to Andrea's family, friends, professors, and classmates at this difficult time.

Brian McAree
Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life
