Assistant professor of German James Pfrehm gave a talk at the Germanic Linguistics Annual Conference in Banff, Canada, entitled, "The Role of Age in Austrians' Perceptions of the Frequency of Use and Likability of Lexical Teutonisms and Austriacisms: Quantitative Consideration."
Pfrehm's paper takes an empirical approach to explore through quantitative statistical analyses the folklinguistic belief among adult Austrians, as evidenced through qualitative data gathered in the spring of 2007, that significant differences exist between older and younger Austrians regarding the frequency of use and likeability of Austrian German and German German words.
