McAfee VirusScan Update for Windows Computers

06/19/09

Contributed by Karen Compton

To ensure that college-owned computers are kept as clean and safe as possible from viruses and spyware, ITS is deploying an upgrade to McAfee VirusScan 8.7 for Windows computers.

The installation will happen automatically starting Tuesday, 6/23. During the installation, you may see various Windows Security pop-up messages indicating that antivirus software might not be installed, might be out of date, or might be turned off. These messages are normal and should occur within a span of a few minutes. Not everyone will get the upgrade on the release date; the installation process will be staggered over a period of days and most computers should receive the upgrade within a week.

Once the installation is complete, you shouldn't see any further Windows Security alerts. if you have spyware or viruses on your computer, you may receive a VirusScan message stating that problems have been found and whether or not McAfee was able to correct the problem automatically.

If you receive a message stating the virus or spyware could not be cleaned or removed, or your computer experiences any problems during or after the installation, please contact the Helpdesk.
