Residential Life Staff Present at National Conference

Four members of the Office of Residential Life traveled to Baltimore to present at the Annual Association of College and University Housing Officers International, ACUHO-i, Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, June 27-30, 2009.

Community Director Brandon Barile-Swain and Residence Director Jessica Ecock presented "Not-So Independent: Engaging Students in Transitional Apartment Communities," a session that highlighted the importance of fostering student independence while providing support and supervision when needed in apartment communities. Participants learned about the various programs and polices in place for Circle and Garden Apartments residents here at Ithaca College.  

Community Director Brandon Barile-Swain and Residence Director Fred Chandra presented "Twittering Technology: Free or Low Cost Technological Solutions for Housing Operations." This session focused on solutions the Office of Residential Life is using to decease its paper output, reduce workload, while providing information to students where they want it. Services such as Facebook, Twitter, Blackboard, iTunes U, and Genbook were demonstrated and discussed.

Director of Residential Life and Judicial Affairs and Assistant Dean of the First Year Experience, Bonnie Prunty, co-facilitated a roundtable discussion titled: "Maintaining a Quality Training/Professional Development Program in Tight Budget Times."   All sessions were well attended, and received positive feedback. Congratulations!
