Katharyn Howd Machan, writing, was awarded first prize by Artists' Embassy International in San Francisco for her poem "Whorl."

Sean Mix, Writing '08, now living and working in San Francisco, will take her place to read the winning poem as part of the Dancing Poetry Festival on September 26.
