As we work together as a campus community to prevent the spread of the H1N1 (swine) flu virus, Student Affairs and Campus Life has arranged for disposable face masks to be available for anyone who is interested.

If you are interested in a face mask, you may pick one up at the Hammond Health Center, or directly from your Resident Assistant (RA).  RAs have been provided with a box of masks for your convenience.  According to the CDC, Face masks help stop droplets from being spread by the person wearing them. They also keep splashes or sprays from reaching the mouth and nose of the person wearing the face mask. They are not designed to protect against breathing in very small particle aerosols that may contain viruses.

If you have the flu, please take special care to avoid infecting others. Take care of yourself by staying at home and resting. Sleep is the best thing you can do to heal and recover. Consult by phone with a medical provider if you have questions, concerns, an underlying health condition, or if symptoms worsen.  If you must leave home wear a facemask if you have one, or cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue.  And wash your hands often to keep from spreading flu to others.
