The Department of Physical Therapy is pleased to invite you to attend either of two duplicate sessions that one of our PT program grads will present as part of the combined IC Reunion/Homecoming Weekend.  

Design for empowerment: Technology that benefits humanity
Come hear how indigenous artisans in Guatemala empower themselves with ergonomics. 

 

Alumna Karen Piegorsch, PT ’80, PhD, talks about ways to deploy technology with a respect for social process to create meaningful change in the developing world.  She reflects on the non-traditional evolution of a transdisciplinary career, and the founding of a nonprofit organization, Synergo Arts.  Karen conducts ergonomic analyses on workers in underdeveloped countries then designs and fabricates assistive devices to improve their quality of life.  She has focused on Guatemala and just returned from her latest trip.  More information about the work that Karen does is available at her website: www.synergoarts.org.

The sessions will be on Friday, Oct 9 from 2-3pm and Saturday, Oct 10 from 10-11am, both in CHS 211.
