Four staff members, three faculty, and four students from the Gerontology Institute traveled to Rochester, New York on October 15 for the State Society on Aging of New York’s Annual Conference, built around the theme, Caregiving for an Aging Population.
Professor John Krout, Institute Director, along with Associate Professor Mary Ann Erickson, and Assistant Professors Elizabeth Bergman and Christine Pogorzala, presented a symposium on the Institute’s involvement in service learning. Krout’s presentation was titled, Intergenerational Service Learning in Gerontology Courses, Activities and Outcomes. Erickson’s, Service Learning Through Stories; Bergman’s, Intergenerational Service Learning as a Pedagogical Tool in an Introductory Aging Studies Course, and Pogorzala’s, Lessons Learned: How Problems in Service-Learning Projects Can Result in Unanticipated Learning Outcomes.
Associate Director, Pamela Mayberry, and FLGEC Project Coordinator, Christine Decker, presented, A Long Term Care Train-the Trainer Services: Lessons Learned. Christine Pogorzala also presented a poster, Designing an Intergenerational Service-Learning Opportunity for an Undergraduate Aging Studies Course, and Elizabeth Bergman presented a symposium, Bereavement Supports and Intervention: What Happens When Family Caregiving Ends?
