Ithaca College’s Veterans Day celebration is coming up soon! Members of the campus community are encouraged to join in the college’s salute to those who serve.
The seventh annual Veterans Day Celebration will be held at noon Tuesday, November 10th in the Ford Hall in the Whalen Center for Music.
Vice President of Finance and Administration Carl Sgrecci will provide a welcome for the ceremony. The IC Brass Choir, conducted by Keith Kaiser and IC Voices, conducted by Susan Avery, will perform.
This year’s keynote speaker is Captain Lawrence Olsen of the U.S. Navy. Captain Olsen is currently serving as the commanding officer and a professor of naval science for the Naval ROTC unit at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit award five times, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal five times and the Navy Achievement Medal during his career.
The event is free and open to members of the campus community and the greater Ithaca area. The celebration will conclude by 1 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation that will be used in making care packages to send to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Suggested items for donation: Beanie Babies, paperback books, boot socks, foot powder, playing cards, dice, dominoes, Dunkin Donuts coffee, nuts, sunflower seeds.
