The First Year Experience Planning Committee and the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs are pleased to welcome Professor Charles Ogletree on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. in Emerson Suites.  His talk, entitled “Mentoring Barack Obama: From Law School to the White House,” will discuss his relationship with President Obama.

A prominent legal theorist, internationally recognized for his views on complex issues, Prof. Ogletree works to secure Constitutional rights for all American citizens, regardless of gender, class, or color. He is the mentor and advisor to President Barack Obama, as well as a professor in the Harvard School of Law, Founding Director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice, and attorney for Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

Prof. Ogletree serves as this year’s First-Year Featured Speaker, in conjunction with the First-Year reading initiative and the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs’ “In My Own Words” Speaker Series. He is the latest addition to the First Year Speaker Series, a program that brings in outside speakers to inspire new students with their intellectual insights and educational experiences.  This free program, open to the entire Ithaca College and Greater Ithaca community, is recommended for all first year students.
