The Ithaca college Forensics program has busy and productive two weeks.
Last weekend (Jan 30-31) the Ithaca College Forensics program hosted a debate tournament which attracted schools from across the country. The tournament featured three different styles of debating and had entries from seventeen different schools. Participating schools included Cornell, Vermont, Amherst College, Colgate, Binghamton University and even a couple schools from the west coast including Claremont McKenna College. Claremont was well rewarded winning the Worlds Debate which was the largest division at the tournament. Ithaca College also entered the Worlds Division and advanced to the quarterfinals. Considering the Ithaca entry had never competed in this style of debate – the performance of Jessica Mortellaro (13) and Brian Rank (12) was very impressive.
This weekend (Feb 5-6) the team traveled to Suffolk University where the team members Caleb McWhorter (13) and Krystina Drasher (13) advanced to the semifinals in JV Lincoln Douglas Debate with Krystina advancing and then winning in the finals over a debater from St Anselm College. In Individual Events Ithaca was successful as well, with a first place in Poetry and fourth place in Dramatic Interpretation by Akin Oni-Orisan (13).
