The Ithaca College/Longview Partnership: Opportunities for Campus Community Involvement

Ithaca College has had a very successful partnership with Longvivew, a retirement community located on Danby Road, for more than ten years. There are many opportunities for members of the IC Community to become involved at Longview, including:
- Presentations at Longview: There has been an ongoing faculty/staff speaker series at Longview since the beginning of the partnership in Spring 1999. These presentations are informal and the topics can be academic in nature, related to areas of personal interest, or travel experiences. An appreciative audience is guaranteed! These monthly presentations generally take place on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Longview auditorium. A speaker is currently needed for March (available dates are March 3rd and 24th) and monthly speakers are needed for the rest of the spring semester into the summer months.
- Course Related Projects at Longview: Faculty members can involve their students at Longview through course related, and/or service learning projects. Intergenerational discussion groups, tours of Longview, recreational and social activities planned by students, and student presentations or performances held at Longview are all possibilities. Chris Pogorzala will work with faculty to identify options and to facilitate scheduling, promotion of programs, and recruitment of Longview participants.
- Volunteer at Longview: Students, staff and faculty are always welcome to volunteer in any capacity at Longview. This might involve assisting in existing recreation programs, creating new ongoing activities, offering a ‘short course’ on a particular subject, providing theater or music performances, planning a social event or dance, or visiting individual residents.
Longview/Ithaca College Shuttle
On days that classes are in session there is a shuttle that provides transportation between Longview and the College. It runs about every 15 minutes from approximately 8:40 a.m. to 1:00 on MWF, and from 9:05 to 12:30 p.m. on Tu/Th with regular stops at Textor and the Center for Health Sciences. This shuttle is available to members of both the Longview and Ithaca College Communities. The shuttle schedule is posted on the Gerontology Institute web site (https://www.ithaca.edu/aging/longview/) and Chris Pogorzala can also provide copies (electronic or paper).
