One of the world’s most respected marimbists, Gordon Stout will give a free recital at Ithaca College’s Hockett Family Recital Hall on Sunday, February 21 at 8:15. He will be joined by a large number of fellow faculty, Ithaca College alumni, and current School of Music students for this program. Faculty members also appearing include jazz bassist Peter Chwazik, soprano Patrice Pastore, saxophonist Mike Titlebaum, and violinist Susan Waterbury. Music of Norvo, Beiderbecke, Wilder, Thrower, and Stout himself will be performed.
Gordon Stout is professor of percussion at Ithaca College. Before coming to Ithaca College in 1980, he taught at St. Mary's College in Maryland. Stout has a B.M. in percussion and a M.M. in composition, as well as the Performers Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. He studied percussion with James Salmon and John Beck and composition with Joseph Schwantner, Samuel Adler and Warren Benson. Stout has appeared as featured marimbist at twelve Percussive Arts Society International Conventions, as well as in Japan, Europe, Thailand, Singapore, and Mexico.
