“The Little Prince” was first commissioned by the Houston Grand Opera and is based on the classic tale written in 1943 by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The opera takes the audience on the journey of the little visitor from a distant asteroid on a quest for knowledge to help save his home planet. He meets a king, a businessman, a vain man and a drunkard, but it is the pilot whom he teaches how to hold onto what is truly important in life. “The Little Prince” uses music to remind the audience that the most basic lessons we learn as children can make us all better adults.

Ithaca College’s production of “The Little Prince” takes on a life of its own. IC alum and Broadway designer Jennifer Caprio returns to design the costumes. Caprio designed the costumes for the smash hit “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” This production also includes a collaboration with the Ithaca Children’s Choir under the artistic direction of Janet Galvan. The children help create the prince’s world of fantasy and innocence. “The Little Prince” is suitable for family audiences.

The cast of “The Little Prince” features Tom Lehman ’10 as the Pilot, Cristina Faicco ’10 as the Little Prince, Emily Kate Naydeck ’10 as the Rose, Stephen Wilkins ’12 as the King, Elena Galvan ’10 as the Fox, Eric Morris ’10 as the Snake, Sam Bianco ’10 as the Lamplighter, Alex Canovas ’12 as the Vain Man, Steven Humes ’12 as the Businessman, Daniel Bates ’11 as the Drunkard, and Sarah Toth ’12 as Water.

The opera is conducted by assistant professor and music director of opera and musical theater Brian DeMaris. Along with Caprio, the design team includes scenic designer Keeley Dorwart ’10 and lighting designer and assistant professor Steve TenEyck. The show’s technical director is Michael Sakolsky ’10, and the production stage manager is Kristin Loughry ’10.
