Ithaca College’s recent initiative to integrate curriculum by involving students from different majors has sent four faculty members: Barbara Belyea, PT, Julie Dorsey, OT, Mary Pitti, SLP, and John Weber, RLS, along with 24 students, to explore and experience the cultures and healthcare systems of Columbia, Panama, Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire.

The students will visit both clinical and cultural settings. They will investigate the culture, society, and the healthcare systems, and will be encouraged to examine the effects of each on the healthcare beliefs, behaviors, services, and delivery systems.

This trip intends to investigate the socio-cultural factors in the delivery of health care and rehabilitation services in an international context. The students will examine how ethnicity, race, religion, and socioeconomic status impact the shaping of health-related beliefs and behaviors of individuals in the selected countries while enjoying the wonderful surroundings, food, and people.
