The social media tool for Ithaca College community members, myHome, unveils a new design and enhanced tools for collaboration and communication between and among students, faculty, and staff. The redesign, focused primarily on the “community” feature, is a realization of the IC Net initiative, one of the IC(2) projects, and a collaboration between the College’s web team and the IC Net student organization.
In the spirit of social media and IC(2), the focus of the new community is on collaboration in our work at the College. The new community features allow you to
We invite you to log in today to collaborate with your friends, your colleagues, your professors, your students. Here are more details about what you can find in the new myHome:
Groups: Create a group for a committee, an organization, or any collection of people looking for a space to collaborate. As the administrator for the group, you’ll have options for privacy and membership control, plus a dedicated discussion forum, documents and media gallery, and tools for messaging group members.
Opportunities: Submit and browse postings for collaborating, volunteering, and ride-sharing within the campus community. Opportunities can be posted by anyone, either on behalf of individuals, or on behalf of groups.
IC Project Showcase: Share the work you’ve done -- or are still doing -- on this campus-wide project portfolio for students, faculty, and staff. The collaborations may be student academic projects, faculty-student research, staff or administrative projects, or any other projects. Project portfolio pages can show documents and media evidence of the project's outcomes, as well as information about the project and an opportunity for the community to provide feedback.
Area of Expertise: Find the collaborators you need through the “area of expertise” search. A new setting on each individual’s profile provides a quick way to find collaborators based on their skill set (e.g., writer, composer, entomologist, child-behavior specialist).
Portlets: Monitoring this new activity is easier, too: new portlets are available for community activity in groups, opportunities, and projects, and the general community activity portlet allows you to filter to only friends, faculty, staff, or students.
