The Contemporary Chamber Ensemble will offer a free concert at 8:15 pm on Tuesday, April 6 in the Hockett Family Recital Hall.  Jeffery Meyer and Charis Dimaras will conduct, and faculty members Deborah Lifton, soprano, and Jennifer Hayghe, piano will be soloists.  The program includes "Two Postcards from Formosa," composed in 2007 by Ming-Hsiu Yen; "Cheating, Lying, Stealing" by David Lang; "Love Beyond Time, Beyond Place" by School of Music composer Dana Wilson, and the iconic "In C" by Terry Riley.

The Contemporary Ensemble is directed jointly by Jeffery Meyer and Richard Faria and focuses on music of our time as well as classics of the 20th century.

The ensemble is comprised of both faculty and students, providing a uniquely formative and intense performance experience for IC students in major works of new music. Recently, the ensemble-- previously known as "Kulmusik" -- performed at the 20th International New Music Festival "Sound Ways" in St. Petersburg, Russia in November 2008. The concert took place at Glinka Hall of the Philharmonic, one of St. Petersburg's most beautiful and prestigious halls. The ensemble combined six faculty members and eight students under the artistic leadership of Sally Lamb and conducted by Jeffery Meyer.
