The Student Government Association would like to recognize this year’s recipients of both the Margaret Reid and Student Government Association Awards and Scholarships. These students were required to possess a minimum grade point average in addition to being stand-out leaders here on campus. Among a large pool of very dedicated applicants, twenty advanced to interviews, and the six applicants below were finally selected.
Margaret A. Reid was an Ithaca College student and the bookkeeper on the Executive Board of the Student Government Association as a sophomore during the 1984-1985 academic year. Shortly after returning home for the summer before her junior year, Margaret passed away due to a small and undetected brain tumor. The purpose of the Margaret Reid Memorial Scholarship is to recognize current Ithaca College students who embody the same spirit of involvement and dedication that Margaret did. She was an excellent student leader, and she understood the great value that participation on campus can lend to an education. It is in her memory, and that of the wonderful work that she did, that this scholarship is given.
The Student Government Association Scholarship was created to recognize and support students with excellent academic performance, and who are involved with student organizations or other leadership-oriented activities on campus. Involvement in extra-curricular activities is a vital part of one’s growth as a person, and can lend unique experiences that accent and add to work done in the classroom. It is in the spirit of leadership and involvement, and the great things that can be accomplished with their proper application, that this scholarship is given.
