Mailing Tips as the Semester Draws to a Close:

04/30/10

There are so many things to do as the semester ends, don’t forget about your mail! We offer the following suggestions to help provide continuity in your mail-related services.

Begin notifying the publishers of magazines and newspapers you receive where you will be in May. Their toll free numbers and web sites are usually listed in the front or back of the publication. This mail class is not forwarded by the USPS from our College. The USPS notifies the publishers of the permanent address we provide on the publication and then discards the mail piece.

Beginning May 3rdth, you will receive an email for all your packages. This includes packages that usually are sent to the mailroom and packages with tracking numbers.  We will sort mail into mail boxes and begin to close mail rooms for package pick up. All packages will be collected at the Phillips Hall Post Office.

During Finals week and Senior week, mail will be sorted into mail boxes but the mail rooms will not be staffed. All packages will be picked up at the Phillips Hall Post Office.

Mail must be picked up from the residence hall mail rooms (except College Circle Apts.) by 8:30 a.m., Monday May 24th.   After that time all mail will be moved to the Mail Center located in the General Services Building. Packages that have not been picked up from the Phillips Hall Post Office by 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 24th will also be moved to the Mail Center.

This will not apply to students staying and working on campus for the summer. Your mail can be collected at Phillips Hall only if you fill out a “hold at Phillips Hall Post Office” request with the Registrar’s office.

Beginning May 24th, all mail and packages will be forwarded to your permanent or new local address. Packages sent via UPS, FedEx and DHL are returned to the sender (these are the courier procedures).

The Mail Center, located in the General Services/Public Safety Building, can ship your boxes home by UPS or FedEx Ground. We do not supply boxes. We do have a small supply of reused boxes available on a first come-first serve basis. You can pay your shipping charges with cash or a check made payable to “Ithaca College”. Shipping hours are Monday – Friday 8:30AM – 3:15PM.

We cannot accept reused liquor boxes or boxes that previously contained hazardous materials for shipments sent through UPS or FedEx, even if you cover up the previous markings.    The Phillips Hall Post Office is open from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

United States Postal Regulations prohibit shipments containing alcohol, and we are not authorized to ship alcohol through UPS or FedEx.

Students working on campus during the summer must fill out a “Hold at the Phillips Hall Post Office” card and take this to the Registrar’s office, if you want your mail and packages to be delivered to you here. This form is available at the Phillips Hall Post Office, the Mail Center and Eastman Hall during check in. After May 29th, mail will be sent home and packages returned if this form has not been turned in to the Registrar’s office.

If you have any questions or we can be of additional assistance to you, please contact us at the Phillips Hall Post Office during regular hours or call us at 274-3371. Thank you.
