Faculty and Staff Facilitators Needed for First-Year Reading Initiative Discussion Groups

05/14/10

Contributed by Hillary Barrett

Faculty and staff are invited to serve as facilitators during the First Year Reading Initiative (FYRI) Discussion Group which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 24, 2010 (Tuesday before first day of classes)

These discussion groups provide the Class of 2014 students an opportunity to discuss a book they have read with their peers and faculty / staff facilitators. This year’s book is Walden by Henry David Thoreau.

Faculty are also invited to consider incorporating Walden into the courses they teach.  Additionally, we are interested in your thoughts and suggestions on programming ideas that might be incorporated into our First Year Reading Initiative events which will take place during the 2010-11 academic year.

One significant change to the program from recent years is that Ithaca Seminar faculty will not be required to meet their class as part of this event; however Ithaca Seminar faculty are certainly invited to serve as facilitators.

Please express your interest in serving as a facilitator and/or wish to incorporate Walden into your course(s) to Associate Provost Bashar Hanna by clicking the following link (please submit information on or before May 23, 2010): https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2010FYRI

If you have programming suggestions or ideas on improving our First Year Reading Initiative please contact Bashar Hanna at bhanna@ithaca.edu

Thank you and we look forward to your participation in this year’s First Year Reading Initiative.
