What’s the difference between Web Conferencing and Webinars and how can I use this technology to support my next meeting or event?

WEB CONFERENCING is used to conduct live meetings, trainings, or presentations via the Internet.  In a web conference, each participant sits at his or her own computer (or gather in a central location) and are connected to other participants via the internet.  This can be either a downloaded application on the attendees' computers or a web-based application where the attendees access the meeting by clicking on a link distributed by e-mail (meeting invitation) to enter the conference.

There are a number of meeting and presentation modes associated with web and video conferencing. To read more please visit:

A WEBINAR describes a specific type of web conference. It is
typically one-way, from the speaker to the audience with limited
audience interaction, such as in a webcast.  A webinar can be
potentially interactive to include polling and question & answer
sessions to allow full participation between the audience and the presenter.

Does the above sound like something you might want to incorporate in your next meeting or conference?  If so, please be sure to let Campus Center & Event Services know when you reserve your room(s).  Some web conferencing can require significant planning and preparation, so please get your requests in as early as possible.  Our office will work with you and IC’s Digital Media Services to make your next event a success.
