It is with a mixture of sadness (for us) and joy (for her new position) that I announce the leaving of Dr. Janet Wigglesworth, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Clinical Services in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance.
Dr. Wigglesworth joined the HSHP faculty in the mid 1990s with a joint appointment in the departments of Exercise and Sport Sciences and Health Promotion and Physical Education. Janet joined the dean's staff in 2003 and has made numerous contributions. She established the Office of Experiential Learning and helped design the interactive database that tracks over 1200 contracts, >2000 sites, and >3000 supervisors. Janet was part of the team that designed the "Enriching Experiences and Real Rewards" for all HSHP students. Janet was the consummate team player for IC and HSHP. She created PALS from the old GIPPE program, created and maintained web pages that kept HSHP in the news and helped ushered in four new graduate programs. In addition to these accomplishments, she was the Webmaster and "technical genius" behind the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine. She was recently recognized by this organization for outstanding service the chapter and the professions. Janet also provided "statistical guidance" to many faculty and students in HSHP. Very recently, Dr. Wigglesworth coordinated with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line to make IC the Northeast recruiting center for students who might enjoy employment on a cruise ship in the entertainment and fitness areas. Many IC faculty will be doing guest lectures/performance on these fabulous cruise ships later this year. Janet is leaving IC to take a position at Western Illinois University. Her HSHP and IC family wish her all the luck at her new university. Her HSHP and IC family wish her all the luck in the future. We will be hosting a farewell social on Friday afternoon June 25th (her last day on campus). Please save the date.
