Are you excited about the First Year Reading Initiative Book, Walden?  Would you be interested in working with first year students in a new way?

The First Year Residence Hall Program in Boothroyd, Rowland, and Tallcott halls is looking for Faculty Associates to work with our new students this year.  We would like to implement a yearlong exploration of the FYRI book Walden.  We have two goals in mind with this program-helping first year students meet a faculty member that they can get to know and learn from outside the classroom and finding ways to make the First Year Reading Initiative more than a one day event.

This program will kick off with you leading a discussion group in the residence halls with our students after the faculty panel presentation about Walden.  Where it goes from there is up to you!  We hope that you can plan ways to explore different themes presenting in the book with the students through discussion and active learning.

This paid position will allow you to engage students in a new way-outside the classroom and perhaps outside your academic discipline.  Please contact Ericka Smith-Schubart at smith@ithaca.edu if you are interested or want more information about this program.
