As previously mentioned in Intercom, support for VHS media and devices is quickly fading and availability of parts for maintenance and repair will soon disappear. ITS continues to prepare for this transition by assessing classroom needs and encouraging VHS users to transition to supported media (DVDs).
You can help us with this assessment by completing the following short survey.
ITS will continue to support VHS in the classroom for the 2010-2011 academic year. However, over the subsequent two to three years, ITS plans to replace VHS players with DVD players in the classrooms. A small loaner pool of VHS machines will be available to help with the transition.
We continue to encourage the campus community to only purchase supported long-term media, such as DVDs, and seek to find VHS titles on DVD.
Digital Media Services can assist you with converting copyright-cleared VHS titles to DVD. The summer is a great time to take us up on this offer! Please send an e-mail to dms@ithaca.edu or stop by Job 103 for assistance.
