Ithaca College has named Rachel Reuben the associate vice president for marketing communications. Reuben comes to Ithaca College from the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she spent 12 years managing a wide range of marketing and communications initiatives. She will begin her new position in July.

“I am really excited about having Rachel Reuben on board,” said Eric Maguire, vice president for enrollment management. “Not only will she bring a tremendous amount of energy to this vital position, her grasp of communication and marketing strategies, especially her expertise with social media, will fit well with the marketing strengths of our institution.”

Reuben will assume a position that was recently upgraded to reflect the importance of integrated marketing and communications. As the associate vice president, she will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive marketing program that supports the college’s strategic goals on an institution-wide basis.

“I am honored to join the creative, talented team at Ithaca College,” Reuben said. “The College is on the forefront with its branding, communications, and social media initiatives, and I very much welcome the opportunity to lend my leadership skills to those forward-looking efforts.”

During her 12-year tenure at New Paltz, Reuben applied her leadership skills to numerous marketing and communications efforts, including crisis management; coordinating print, web, and e-mail campaigns; implementing a new brand identity system; leading the College’s Creative Services Team, and redesigning the College’s web sites. Working with the admission office, she developed an online community for accepted students that helped increased the yield rate among the highest selectivity group. Her efforts at New Paltz won her numerous honors, including the 2008 SUNY Council for University Advancement Award of Excellence for the best electronic communications and interactive media/social networking site.

An expert on marketing strategies in higher education, Reuben has been quoted in the “Chronicle of Higher Education,” “Campus Technology,” “University Business,” and other professional journals. She has also given workshops, webinars, and conference presentations at numerous venues, including the Building B-Schools Symposium, sponsored by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and web forums sponsored by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

Reuben holds an MBA in marketing and management and a bachelor’s in organizational communication from New Paltz.
