The Strike Duo, which consists of pianist Jeffery Meyer, director of the Ithaca College Orchestras, and percussionist Paul Vaillancourt, recently performed at the Beijing Modern Festival at the Central Conservatory in Beijing as well as the Tianjin Conservatory. The Beijing Modern Festival is China's largest and most important international new music festival, which began almost 10 years ago at the Central Conservatory. International guests this year include Chen Yi, Aaron Jay Kernis, and Samuel Adler, as well as performing groups from Canada, United States, Australia, England and Austria. In addition, Meyer gave masterclasses in orchestral conducting at the Central Conservatory. The Tianjin Conservatory, whose forerunner was the Central Conservatory, is now one of China's leading conservatories, made up of over 181 full-time instructors.
