Come to the last performance of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, 7:30 PM tonight at the CRS Barn Studio, 2622 North Triphammer Road, Ithaca, NY. Directed by Steve Stull and Jeanne Goddard and conducted by Richard Montgomery, this joyful production features faculty and students from the School of Music.
Professor Deborah Montgomery-Cove and assistant professor Amada DeMaris join such noted singers as Thom Baker, Andrew Bawden, Todd Geer, Joanna Manring, David Neal, and Steve Stull in this special adaptation of Mozart’s most enchanting opera. Other IC cast members are Perry Albert, Dan Bates, Anna Brooks, Alexander Canovas, Lynn Craver, Amy Czuhanich, Anthony Di Renzo, Laura Gladd, Madeline Harts, Laura McCall, Scott Stull, Chelsea Swan, Jaime Warburton, Sara Weaver, and Stephen Wilkins.
Mozart’s The Magic Flute is a fairy tale of love and redemption. Prince Tamino and his companion, the merry birdcatcher Papageno, must endure terrible trials to become worthy of their sweethearts: Princess Pamina and Papagena. Their quest occurs amid a cosmic battle between Sarastro, the High Priest of the Sun, and Pamina’s mother, the vengeful Queen of the Night. Adventuring with our heroes, the audience will encounter piping spirits, dancing slaves, secret rites of fire and water, and a creature from the deep.
The Magic Flute's final show will be at 7:30 PM Sunday, August 1. Weather permitting, the performance will take place outdoors. In case of rain, the show will move into the barn studio. Tickets will be sold at the door: $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for students. Volunteers who work the box office or usher may attend for free. For more information, please call 257-2043.
