Timothy Johnson In Documentary on Music and Mathematics

Timothy Johnson, Associate Professor of Music Theory, will participate in the filming of a documentary on music and mathematics this week. He will appear in the film as an expert, interviewed on-camera for the documentary. Johnson's book, Foundations of Diatonic Theory: A Mathematical Approach to Music Fundamentals (Scarecrow Press 2008) caught the eye of director and producer, Michael LaPointe, whose extensive credit list includes ABC, MTV, SciFi Channel, and Showtime, among others. LaPointe's films have been featured in over 25 film festivals worldwide. This fall at IC, Johnson will teach the Freshman Music Theory Seminar on diatonic theory, using his book and his other work in this interdisciplinary area.
