Timothy Smith ('03) won the 2nd trombone position with the Buffalo Philharmonic this past spring. There were over 100 trombonists who took the audition. He will be doing an alumni recital this coming spring here at IC.
Michael Dobranski ('00) is the first call bass trombonist in Las Vegas and is currently playing "The Lion King" in the Paris Hotel. He recently finished an extended run of "The Producers" there as well.
Dr. Ken Kreuzer ('95) released the first CD of his trombone works this past year to critical acclaim. The solo trombone works were played by Mark Kellogg, Principal Trombone of the Rochester Philharmonic, Mark Salatino, 2nd trombonist of the RPO and Dr. Hal Reynolds. Reynolds premiered two of the works on the album and one of the works was commissioned by the Ithaca College Trombone Troupe.&
nbsp; The reviewer in the International Trombone Association Journal among other things states, "Kreuzer's works for trombone are well-written, musically interesting, and would serve well for advanced players in the trombone studio. 'Fading Lights.' for solo trombone and trombone quintet, is beautifully performed by Reynolds and is a fine addition to the trombone repertoire."
Dr. Harold Reynolds was invited to do a day of brass clinics at the Armed Services School of Music in Norfolk, VA on May 13th. While in the US Navy, Reynolds was a student there in 1967. He did clinics for all the brass players (112,) and 35 trombonists. He also taught some private lessons during his stay there.
Reynolds served as Principal Trombonist for 15 productions of "Tosca" and 9 productions of Copland's "The Tender Land" during this summer's Glimmerglass Opera season in Cooperstown, NY. Reynolds has played in this internationally recognized opera company's productions for six complete seasons since 1989. Two of those productions were recorded and aired on NPR.
In December of 2010, Reynolds will be guest soloist with the Hobart College Brass Choir. He will be doing the Launy Grondahl "Concerto for Trombone" on the concert. The group is made up of students and professional musicians from the college and the upstate region.
The Ithaca College Trombone Troupe will host Mr. Ronald Barron, former Principal Trombonist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, in September. Mr. Barron, accompanied by Dr. Diane Birr, will do a solo recital at 7:00 PM in the Hockett Family Recital Hall on Thursday, September 23rd and will do a master class for the trombone studio at 4:00 on September 24th in the Presser Rehearsal Room. Both are open and free to the public.
