Dr. Janet Galván was the guest conductor for the Rhapsody Choral Festival in Vienna, Salzburg, and Prague this summer.
The final two concerts were held in Dvorak Hall, the concert hall of the Rudolfinum and the Simon and Judah Church in Prague. In these culminating concerts Galván conducted a festival chorus of singers from Trinidad, China, Connecticut, and Ithaca and the chamber orchestra, Virtuosi Pragneses. Both halls were filled to capacity, and the audiences called for multiple encores each evening. Other venues on the tour included St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, St. Andra Church in Salzburg, St. Stephan’s Cathedral in Vienna, and the Haydnkirche in Vienna. Dr. Galván is the artistic director of the Ithaca Children’s Choir which served as the core group of the massed choirs. Jon Riss, recent alumnus, was the accompanist for the Rhapsody Chorus. Dr. Emily Mason, Assistant Professor of Music, Jennifer Sengin, recent Ithaca College alumna, and Cristina Faicco, senior at Ithaca College, conducted the Ithaca Children’s Choir in their individual concerts. Ithaca College students David Cruz and Brett Maley were musical assistants and chaperones on the trip. Recent alumna Sarah Vallery was also a musical assistant. Recent alumna Colleen Clark played percussion with the Ithaca Children’s Choir and with the large choir. Michael Galván, professor of clarinet, played clarinet with the chamber orchestra and also played solo clarinet in the Ithaca Children’s Choir solo concert.
