In the late 1970's, a mysterious new disease began infecting and killing gay men. This film tells the story of the first decade of the AIDS epidemic, using the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt as its metaphor. Personal memories and television news reports are woven together to expose the government's failure to respond to the growing epidemic, and the vibrant protest movement that was born as a result.
Sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services, the film series this year explores the theme "History and Heroes of the LGBT Movement." Additional screenings will take place during the spring.
