Associate Professor Jeff Holmes and Professor Barney Beins participated in a symposium on scientific literacy among psychology students at the annual convention of the American Psychological Association in San Diego.
The symposium, " Psychology, psychology students, and scientific literacy: Implications for teaching," also included Professor Salvador Macias from the University of South Carolina--Sumter.
The symposium drew connections between the psychology curriculum, students' interests, and development of scientific literacy in students as they progress through the psychology curriculum.
The three presentations in the symposium were Is scientific literacy compatible with student interests? Implications for teaching (Jeff Holmes), Students and psychological research: Fostering scientific literacy (Barney Beins), and Psychology 101: The most "scientific" of all sciences? (Salvador Macias).
