It is a sukkah! Last Wednesday marked the eve of the Jewish harvest festival of Sukkot. Sukkot or the Feast of Booths/Tabernacles is a Jewish holiday celebrated on the 15th day of the Hebrew calendar month of Tishrei. The Holy Day lasts seven days and is followed by another festive day known as Shemini Atzeret. Throughout the holiday, the sukkah becomes the living area of the house, and all meals are eatin in it. On each day of the holiday, members of the household recite a blessing over the lulav (four plant species) and the etrog(a citrus fruit).
Hillel has built a sukkah outside of Muller Chapel to share in the joy of the holiday with the entire campus. Anyone and everyone is welcome to eat, study and/or relax in this festive booth. If you have any questions or you would like to learn more about the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, please contact the Jewish Chaplain Michael Faber at faber@ithaca.edu or hillel@ithaca.edu for more information. We hope to see you in or around the sukkah before the end of the holiday on Wednesday Sept. 29th! Shana Tova (Happy New Year) and Happy Holidays!
