Those who have been to the first two concerts in the 2010 Chopin Festival series can attest to evenings of beautiful and spectacular music performed by Ithaca College piano faculty and piano performance majors. The third concert, Chopin the Classicist?, promises to be another fantastic evening of piano music.

The concert will be on Tuesday, October 19th at 8:15 PM in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center for Music. Works to be performed include Chopin’s four Scherzi, some of the most virtuosic pieces in Chopin’s output, and the magnificent Piano Sonata in B Minor, one of the monuments of the piano repertoire. These works are cast in “traditional” Classical forms, but with a decidedly Romantic attitude. Dr. Jennifer Hayghe and her students Michael Gaertner, Elizabeth Leger and Forest Tong, will be the featured performers on the concert. Audiences have been at capacity for the series so far, so plan to arrive early!

The 2010 Chopin Festival at Ithaca College is a five-concert series of faculty and student collaborative performances celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederic Chopin, composer of the some of the world’s most beloved piano music. Upcoming concerts are Chopin the Dancer on November 9th and Chopin the Poet on November 30th. All concerts are in Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center for Music, and are free and open to the public.
