"Mud, Sweat and Gears": An Evening with "The Metal Cowboy" on November 18th

11/17/10

Contributed by Marian Brown

Join us for an evening of inspiration, humor and mayhem with “The Metal Cowboy”, Joe Kurmaskie, on Thursday, November 18th. “The Metal Cowboy” will entertain his audience at 7:00PM in Textor Hall Room 101.

Joe has been called a modern-day Mark Twain on two wheels - which he is quick to point out is outright slander of one of the nation’s literary titans. Joe Kurmaskie has also been described as David Sedaris trapped in the body of Lance Armstrong. He's a cycling advocate, syndicated columnist, performer, and the bestselling author of five books, including “Metal Cowboy”, “Mud, Sweat and Gears”, and “Momentum Is Your Friend.” Joe brings a multimedia show of stand-up comedy, storytelling, arresting images, cycling advocacy and audience interaction that you will be talking about long after he's been extradited by the proper authorities.

This event is free and open to the public. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Marian Brown at 607-274-3787 or mbrown@ithaca.edu. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.

Copies of Kurmaskie’s books will on sale, courtesy of the Ithaca College Bookstore; Kurmaskie will be available to sign purchased copies following his presentation.

This event is the kickoff event for the Moving Forward: Active Transportation Symposium 2010, a two-and-a-half day opportunity to engage with national experts and fellow community members and students around innovations in bicycle and pedestrian planning, design, research and advocacy. This symposium will take place at Cornell University and at locations in around downtown Ithaca. For more information, click on Active Transportation Symposium.
