In “Finding History on the Lawn: Adventures with a History B.A.,” Raechel will discuss her experiences at Ithaca College, at Rutgers University, and working for non-profit institutions in order to impart two fundamental ideas: that a humanities education is the best way to start any career and careers in history and art history are possible with an undergraduate degree.

At IC, Alumni Raechel Lutz (‘07) majored in History and Art History and played lots of ultimate frisbee.  Now living in New Jersey, Raechel works full-time at the Montclair Art Museum as the Media Coordinator in the Marketing and Communications Department.  This past May, she also graduated with her Masters degree in Environmental History from Rutgers University.  Her thesis “Labor on the American Lawn: How Cutting the Grass Transformed Our Relationship With Nature” analyzes the changing lawn labor sources that have maintained New Jersey’s lawns since the 1960s through the present and what those changes mean for suburbanites, landscapers, and Latin American grounds maintenance workers.  This fall, she is applying to PhD programs in Environmental History.
