Room still available in innovative new course ANTH 29000-01 Teaching, Learning & Education in the Multicultural Southwest

11/17/10

Contributed by Brooke Hansen

From Native American cultural ceremonies to the impact of recent legislation in Arizona, this course takes an interdiciplinary approach to learning in the diverse southwest.

In this course we will investigate the practices, philosophies and issues of teaching and learning in the Southwest region of the United States. As we discuss the ways that education has been narrowly defined, we will investigate various southwestern cultural traditions of teaching and learning through community and ceremony, along with contemporary issues. A basic understanding to be acquired from this class is that teaching, learning and education mean more than what is found in the classroom.

Taught by Hollie Kulago, Diversity Pre-Doctoral Fellow in Residence, Anthropology & Education Departments and Native American Studies. hkulago@ithaca.edu

This course will count towards the Native American Studies Minor https://www.ithaca.edu/hs/minors/native_american/
