Come celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on December 4th!
In 1960 in the Dominican Republic, three sisters (the Mirabal sisters) were brutally assassinated at the command of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo. Trujillo was a cruel dictator who ruled for many decades and the three Mirabal sisters were part of the resistance movement against his regime.
As a result, November 25th has been named the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Every year we are encouraged to spread awareness about the events of that horrific day. We commit and re-commit to learn about violence against women from a local, national and international perspective and to learn about how to actively work against gender-based violence in our communities.
CUSLAR (The Committee on US-Latin American Relations) invites you to join in celebrating with us on December 4th.
