Student Computer Repair Center (SCRC) - Clarification of Dell Warranty Repairs

In a recent Intercom story, ITS announced a change to the SCRC warranty repair service for Dell computers, indicating that ITS is no longer an authorized service provider for Dells. While this announcement was intended to address only those who personally own a Dell computer, it has caused some confusion.

To clarify, ITS is still an authorized service provider for Dell computers but ITS does not receive labor reimbursement from Dell for repairing computers that are not owned by the college. As a result, until and unless this changes, it is not cost effective for SCRC to provide, nor for customers to receive, Dell warranty repair service for personally-owned computers.

The SCRC will continue to offer warranty repair service for Apple computers, as well as non-warranty repair service on all computer brands including Dell.

There is no change to ITS's support for or repair of college-owned computers.
