Please join the members and friends of the Finger Lakes Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association (NYSAA) for a presentation by Michael Rogers of the Physics Department on Tuesday, February 1 at 7:30 pm in CNS 206.

NYSAA meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm in CNS206.  All people with an interest in archaeology are welcome!

Answering Landscape Scale Anthropological Questions using Archaeogeophysics

Understanding landscape scale interaction of humans with their environment and each other is of interest to archaeologists. Recent advances in archaeological instrumentation and processing software allow for large scale, high resolution surveys that have the ability to address landscape scale questions. Large scale surveys introduce new challenges in gathering data, managing enormous data streams, and in processing data. How these challenges are met will be discussed in the context of a 300-year-old Native American village site in Central New York and Late Bronze Age cities in Cyprus.

Michael Rogers teaches in the Physics Department at Ithaca College. He has worked on archaeological sites across North America and in Europe conducting archaeological geophysics investigations. He is the Vice President of the Finger Lakes chapter of the NYSAA.
