The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen film series will host a screening of Word is Out on Wednesday March 9 in Textor 102 at 7 pm.
Thirty years ago, Word is Out startled audiences across the country when it appeared in movie theaters and on television. The first feature-length documentary about lesbian and gay identity became an icon of the emerging gay rights movement with interviews with 26 gay and lesbian people who describe their experiences coming out, falling in and out of love, and struggling against prejudice and discriminatory laws.
And, watch for screenings of the “Word Is Out Then and Now- 30 Years Later” featurette to be shown in the LGBT Resource Room throughout the month.
Sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services, the film series this year explores the theme "History and Heroes of the LGBT Movement."
