Associate Director, Margie Malepe, has been planning high profile events for the Campus Center & Event Services Office for 23 years. Margie received her event planning start as a student at SUNY Cortland where she held positions on the Student Activities Board and Bureau of Concerts. Margie recalls, “When we had the opportunity to bring James Taylor on campus, I was hooked.  Prior to that time, I hadn't realized that event planning was a career choice.”

Margie is always up for a challenge and finds excitement in taking on a large event. “It’s most exciting after all these years to try something different—to try something new that I have never done before. Hosting the Dalai Lama on campus a few years ago was an amazing experience.”

You may wonder--How does this pro stay on top of her event game? She always checks and double checks everything—and never assumes anything. “I check my own work, review my event plans and confirm arrangements with service providers. If an event that I’ve planned can go off successfully without me being there—then I’ve done my job well.”
