We are one step closer to completing our search for an official Ithaca College mascot.

The mascot suggestion period closed on January 12, and I am excited to report that the selection task force received over 250 suggestions! During the six-week submission period, students, faculty, staff, and alumni sent in a wide variety of ideas for consideration. Submissions were encouraged through posters around campus, word of mouth by members of our Mascot Selection Task Forceblog postsFacebookTwittermedia coverage, e-mails, the Bomber Bash event, and even messages on candy canes before the holiday break.

The task force has begun the challenging assignment of narrowing down all of the suggestions to a handful of finalists. The College is partnering with a firm that specializes in collegiate athletic brand identities to develop new logos for athletics that incorporate the mascot, as well as to develop the mascot costume.

Later this spring the task force will be announcing the finalists and sharing possible logo sketches for each. An online survey will be available in April to collect feedback on each of the finalists.

Visit the IC mascot website and blog to follow the search for a mascot, as well as @ICMascot on Twitter.
