Faculty from the Department of Physical Therapy have combined forces with physical therapists from Unity Health System in Rochester to offer New York State’s first credentialed post-professional residency program in neurologic physical therapy.
The program was recently notified of its successful credentialing by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education. This 50 week program targets physical therapists interested in receiving advanced training in neurologic physical therapy management of individuals with stroke, traumatic brain injury, balance and vestibular disorders, spinal cord injury, and other neurologic medical diagnoses. The residency program combines experiential clinical practice with advanced foundational knowledge and skill based instruction. In addition, the neurologic resident gains teaching experience by serving as a lab assistant within Ithaca College’s entry level physical therapy curriculum. The program is co-directed by Unity Health System, and by Associate Professor Cindy Zablotny, PT, DPT, MS, NCS from the IC Physical Therapy Department’s Rochester Campus.
