A memorial service is scheduled for this Sunday, March 6, at 3:30 p.m. in Muller Chapel. Victoria's family will be in attendance, and we hope that members of the campus community will take this opportunity to join in supporting them as well as one another.
Dear friends,
Saturday evening we shared the sad news of the tragic loss of Victoria Cheng, a freshman biology major in the School of Humanities and Sciences, who passed away over the weekend. She will always be remembered as the outgoing and enthusiastic young woman she was, and we will truly miss her presence within our community.
I join the Ithaca College faculty, staff, and students in expressing our heartfelt condolences to Victoria’s family, which is deeply connected to our College community. Victoria’s father Joseph is one of our valued faculty in the School of Business, her mother Sarah is an alumna, and her brother Joshua is a current student in the School of Humanities and Sciences.
Muller Chapel was filled to capacity on Sunday afternoon as the campus came together to offer each other support and consolation. The gathering, filled with tears, embraces, and memories, reflected the close-knit nature of our College community. As Victoria was a 2010 graduate of Ithaca High School, we opened our arms to her high school friends and classmates to be a part of our community in this time of shared grieving.
I know our community will continue to come together to lend one another support and words of encouragement. Counseling services are available for students through the Ithaca College Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (607-274-3136). Faculty and staff can speak to a counselor through the Employee Assistance Program (1-800-327-2255).
Plans to commemorate Victoria’s life more formally will be announced once they are made in consultation with the Cheng family.
Warmest Regards,
Tom Rochon
President
