"Troica is a unique ensemble of trumpet, saxophone, and piano, whose members are well-known performers and pedagogues in their field, as well as faculty members at Ithaca College. While the ensemble's name is derived from the Russian work troika, meaning a governing body of three equal individuals, the spelling of the ensemble's name using the letters IC instead of IK, refers to their Ithaca College (i.e., IC) affiliation."
Troica: Steven Mauk, alto saxophone; Kim Dunnick, trumpet; Diane Birr, piano
Excerpts from the review:
"The flawless execution of each of the parts, along with the musical depiction of character by the musicians through nuance and musical control, allow for the true character of the movement to be projected clearly to the listener."
"Troica successfully articulates Satterwhite's story in music as they individually, and collectively, go beyond the musical expectations of the written parts with not only subtlety and mastery of the music, but also with interpretive prowess."
"Members of Troica handily negotiate the musical, as well as, the emotional content of the piece with a keen sense of interpretation for the style, and musical direction in their performance."
